On-Line Amateur Radio License Training
http://www.voip.southcars.com
For those of you interested in obtaining your Amateur Radio License, we’ve recently learned of an opportunity provided by the South Coast Amateur Radio Service, (aka SouthCAR.) Their training is provided over the internet via Skype.
I have not actually attended one of their training sessions, so I can’t vouch for how the program works, but the training and training material is free of charge so it may well be worth looking into. A member of the SouthCAR Organization has forward the following information: Hi and thanks for your interest. General information and specific class material may be found on our website at www.voip.southcars.com. In specific when opening the home page on our site look at the left side bar, scroll down to “SCARS Downloads, left click here, and when the new page opens select “Technician “. For those of you who will be joining the class who are not yet licensed, we will be asking you to join us through a Skype conference. If you already have the Skype program on your computer we will need to know your Skype user name and send you an invitation for us to join your system. If you do not currently have Skype it is a free downloadable program and can be found at http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/on-your-computer/windows (select the free version) All classes will be held on our EchoLink server *SCARS* node 96140 or IRLP node 9614. These classes will be held at 7 pm (2300 Z) on each Sunday and Tuesday starting on March 18th and running through April 8th. The SCARS server and the Skype conference will be linked together for this Technician course. For those who may be interested in higher level courses, we will be running a General course between April 29th and May 27th, and an Extra course between July 8th and August 14th. You will find that all classes and support material is totally free. Gordon/ky6v |
If any of you take their training, let us know how about the quality of the training, and if it is helpful toward your efforts to earn your license.
We are planning on an internal training program in the future, but this is available now, and the price is right as well. |
