It has been quite some time since the last update for this site. That was due to the many layoffs and other business related dealings that really caused major issues with our Leadership Tree. Thankfully we have someone that has stepped up to take the reigns of our club, get us back active not only on the air but also in our communities, and help the restoration of the club back to its former glory............ ...Enter Brian Darley - KM4YHZ... Brian, KM4YHZ, is a native of Fort Myers, Florida having graduated from high school here before joining the United States Air Force. During his six-year stint, he was an Aircraft Mechanic and worked on the U-2 Reconnaissance Aircraft and the A-10 Warthog! After leaving the USAF he relocated back to Fort Myers and started work for a local two-way radio company that serviced and maintained an 800 MHz trunking service prior to the Nextel rise. He also worked for its parent company doing cellular installs for businesses that used a patented interface to interconnect a cellular phone to a customer’s key system or PBX. On top of this he dealt with network connectivity, alarm systems, and other low voltage projects. After leaving from that job he worked for a contract company that provided contractors for Sprint Local. He was hired on as a contract frame attendant running service orders and working rolls within the local switches. After for years he was hired on full time with Sprint before the spin off to Embarq and now CenturyLink. He has since worked as a Network Technician for CenturyLink for going on 14 years. Now, Brian is in the Fiber Toll Services Group (working to support and maintain DS3 and above rated services to include Ethernet, Sonet OC3/192 systems, the mini head-end for Prism, and the exchange head-end for MDU customers not supporting Prism) in the Fort Myers District consisting of only 4 technicians, including him. Brian’s interests are fishing, boating, spending time with the family, and Ham Radio. He currently has a Technician License and should have his General ticket by the end of summer. Brian’s interest in radios began with his uncle who used to talk nightly with a friend over the ham hands in Michigan stating, “I could hear him at night when he would get on the air. We didn’t have cable, so the only channels in the area were local channels over-the-air which resulted in our ability to hear his side of the conversation through our tv!” Brian is very active with the local ham club with 3 nets weekly and serves his community through the local ARES group. We are very thankful for Brain’s support, enthusiasm, and willingness to step up and assist our club! Everyone please take a moment to welcome Brian – KM4YHZ to the club!
